Thunberg believed that this was needed to draw the attention of politicians who wanted to adopt measures to combat the global warming. Swedish media captured Thunbergs strike and news about her strike went out. Soon after, thousands of other students joined in the #FridaysforFuture campaign. They stayed home on Friday in protest against climate change. Climate activists from across the world coordinated the very initial Global Strike for Climate in 2019. This was a huge success.
